My wife, after finally deciding, is now questioning the name because she chose to name the baby after his dad....(me) and is second guessing it for a variety of reasons.
So. let's do this once more before she goes into labor
Gabriel: good--classic, not over used, nice flow with Joseph
Jonathan: name itself is alright, but don't like the alliteration with Joesph (too "John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt)
Blake: never liked this name. Makes me think of "flake" which makes me think of dandruff and scabs. Don't like the way the "B-L" feels in my mouth/tongue. Doesn't sound good with Joseph
Theodore: I really like this name, but found only certain people can pull it off. Otherwise it can feel to over-wrought
Benjamin: my favorite. Classic, flows well, good nicknames, not "trying too hard"
Lucas: fine, but doesn't flow with Joseph
OP, after naming several children, I've found several things to be true for me: middle names don't matter as much as you think they do when you're naming a baby; things like "BJ" aren't often a problem because a lot of kids don't even know each other's middle names; I never could chose a name just because I liked the sound of it or thought it was "cool" or "pretty"--I would get stuck until I found a *reason* to choose a name. Are there family connections to any of these names? Or place connections? Or other respected people? Look for a reason other than "it sounds good and we like it" and see if that helps you decide. It helped me.

Interesting feedback.
I personally like
Theodore Joseph (TJ)
Jonathan Theodore Joseph (JT)
Theodore Joseph (TJ)
Jonathan Theodore Joseph (JT)
Joseph is the connecting name (grandfather).
Those sound nice. I like the initial nicknames. We call some our kids by their initials not as their actual nickname, but just for fun. We even considered naming our son Thomas (family name) Rex (just liked it) and his family nickname could have been T.Rex! (Knowing the kid now, I still kind of regret we didn't do that!)
So concerning the names you like--especially big ones like Theodore--here's another example of how we eliminated names: for our son, my husband REALLY liked William. I have no problem with William. Nice name. Nothing offensive at all. It's one of the most popular names in our state, which still wouldn't be a problem if we'd had a *reason* to choose it. We scoured family history--nope, no Williams. Couldn't come up with any other Williams we felt particular affection toward...I just couldn't do it. So for me, for a name like Theodore, I'd have to have a reason--even if it was that Theodore Roosevelt was my husband's favorite president or I adored Theo Huxtable growing up! One family I know who pulls off Theodore well has unique-traditional (maybe "slightly obscure" would be a better way to describe?) name for all their kids (Violet, Francis) IMO, it works as part of the larger picture. I wouldn't want one kid named Theodore, and the next named Brayden or Jaden...
Jonathan is a good name only if you shorten it to john. Thats what my sons name is so naturally thats my pick. Blake is ok too but I would toss the rest of them names.
I think they're all fine. Nothing awful in there. Blake sounds a little like mom read too many romance novels, but if it's a meaningful name for some other reason then it's fine.
