Learning systems that will.enhance their future endeavors has its place. The things that truly matter will be short on apps...integrity..equality...responsibility to community. But let's leave that for life to teach.

Our 14 year old girls have had Kindles and Nexus tablets since the beginning of middle school and we also have 1 laptop and 1 pc for their use in the family room. The only electronics allowed in their bedrooms are their Kindles to read.
Neither one has requested a smart phone but we are having that conversation. The one in ninth grade thinks she will be ready next year when she is a sophomore. She already told us she would be embarrassed to have a flip phone. We live in a very affluent community and it is not unusual to see little kids in grade school or earlier with i pads and their own smart phones. I think that is ridiculous. Nobody talks to anybody anymore.
