Nope. You need to get healthier friends and family that actively choose to be healthy.

And of the "50,000 deaths each year" statement, only about 500 to 1,000 are attributed to flu. The other 49,000 to 49,500 deaths are from pneumonia. The CDC lumps them into to one category to make the flu more scary. Look it up yourself in the annual vital stats. Stop fear mongering and being terrified. Go get healthy and live your life.

It's fascinating to me the people who make stuff up and try to sell it as scientific fact. It's really not hard to find factual data in 2016. Although also not hard is reading through a thread before posting.........

Pediatric deaths are counted separately, no matter what Barbara Loe Fisher says.

Overview of Influenza Surveillance in the United States | Seasonal Influenza (Flu) | CDC
"Influenza-Associated Pediatric Mortality Surveillance System — Influenza-associated deaths in children (persons less than 18 years) was added as a nationally notifiable condition in 2004. Any laboratory-confirmed influenza-associated death in a child is reported through this system. Demographic and clinical information are collected on each case and are transmitted to CDC."

Eight years later, Babs hadn't gotten the word.

So do your "healthier friends and family" live in a giant plastic bubble with you?

Does this "health bubble" include schools, stores, shopping centers, movie theaters, crowded streets subways and buses??

Most of the rest of us I guess live in the "real world" where communicable diseases like flu exist in nature and can't be avoided by "choosing to be healthy" whatever that means...

Does "choosing to be healthy" include not breathing the air around you??

As for your "flu death" stats more nonsense....cite a reference or don't bother making up numbers...

Besides most of us aren't worried about "dying from the flu" only "feeling like we are going to die" for a week or more.....I'll take the vaccine over that feeling every Fall....

Simple question for you....

Which costs more?

Flu shot at the drugstore or PCP office...

ED visit for treatment of flu....

Which is the "big ticket item" for the consumer

As far as Big Bad Pharma....Flu vaccine margin is minimal

If Pharma really wanted to go for the Big Ticket they would stop making the vaccine and concentrate on the antivirals....much bigger margin, much more profit, much bigger ticket....

Flu shot boom a boon for many, as industry continues to grow | TribLIVE

Flu season usually begins in October and can run through May, with viruses striking as many as one in five Americans. Flu shots have become a $3 billion annual enterprise in the United States, accounting for about 1 percent of pharmaceutical industry revenue, according to Temple University professor Eric Keuffel.
“It's certainly profitable for the manufacturers,” he said.

You're right $3 billion sales of one product isn't a very big enterprise.
You probably haven't met someone who has ever had polio either. Care to guess why?

The anti-vax folks love to pick on the flu vaccine because the nature of flu viruses assures them that they will be able to point fingers at how "ineffective" flu vaccination is.

Estimates of the effectiveness of flu vaccination are based on actual laboratory confirmed diagnoses of flu. They are not somehow made up. The effectiveness will vary depending on how well the vaccine matches circulating strains. If the more common strains are not even in the vaccine, why on earth should we fault the vaccine for not protecting against those strains? It cannot. In fact, I would argue that effectiveness rates should perhaps be calculated only for the strains in the vaccine, but that is just my personal opinion.

Here are effectiveness rates for recent flu seasons. The 2014-2015 vaccine did not include the predominant circulating strain, so the effectiveness was low. The past season's vaccine was better matched and was about twice as effective.

Seasonal Influenza Vaccine Effectiveness, 2005-2016 | Health Professionals | Seasonal Influenza (Flu)

Estimates of the number of cases and deaths from flu are difficult to obtain because the data they are based on is imperfect. That does not mean that cases do not happen and that there are few deaths from flu. Many deaths happen due to bacterial pneumonia superimposed on the initial flu. Those are rightfully counted as flu deaths because without the flu the bacterial infection would not have happened. Pediatric flu deaths are reportable, so they are countable, and, as pointed out in a post above, 90% of children who die from flu were not vaccinated.

In a well matched season, flu vaccine can cut the risk of getting flu by about half to two thirds. That makes it worthwhile to take it, as the risk of serious harm from the vaccine itself is tiny.

Arent the responsible actions of others great for you? It's awesome that herd immunity protects even people who are immune compromised and can't get vaccinated.

There is no "herd immunity" in the US when it comes to the flu or the flu vaccine. She didn't get the flu because she didn't get the flu.

lmao @ anti-vaxxers.

No amount of facts will change their minds.

And super duper LOL @ the guy who said he has never met anyone in his life that has had the flu.

Given that their are millions of cases of the flu every year, that is just an absolutely preposterous statement.

And of course with the vaccine, the number of cases would be even higher.
