So my niece is turning 13, rather than getting her something she might not like or need I thought cash was the best option, she can get what she wants or save it for a rainy day.
I would love to just take her shopping but we live in different states so that's not an option.
Now how much should you give to a 13 year old?
I bought some nice chocolate so she can share with her siblings and I'm thinking $40 to put in the birthday card. Is that too little, too much?
What are your thoughts?
How much money do you give to your kids or nieces and nephews?
Hmmmm.... call me cheap but a $25 gift card works for me, especially with chocolate and a greeting card.
Granted some folks don't have kiddos or a tight budget so they lavish on nieces and nephews or grands and in that case if it makes your day to do so without breaking the bank and if you can consistently due the same for all others then I say go for it and splurge.

I think chocolate and 40$ is awesome. Not over the top but certainly on the generous side.

Depends on what you can afford, and what you are comfortable with.
I usually give between $50 gift cards to the ten and under set, $100 cash or gc for those kids above.
My daughter has gotten everything from $5 GC to $500. She has been happy to receive them all. I also concur with the itunes gc, and add many love amazon gcs too.
