My favorite danish boy's name is currently Malthe (also Malte). It is very rare and very old, probably of Saxon origin. I was unable to find a phonetic translation. Danish pronunciation is hard for English speaking people, and if you ever gave this name to a kid in the US, his school teachers would butcher it, causing all kinds of embarrassment (as happened to my son to whom we gave a scottish name.

Maybe we have a danish person, here, who can help out?

We decided early on that we would NOT name a child after our grandfathers - Elmer, Adolph or Mortimer. There is too much baggage that come along with those names.

I worked in a hospital with a large maternity unit. The topic of discussion one day was the mother who INSISTED upon naming her newborn daughter "Placenta." (I am not making this up.) The obstetrician and OB nurses sat down with the mother and explained to her the implications of giving her daughter that name.

Were you involved in this situation first hand? I'm asking because I've heard many such stories, and most are unconfirmed. However, there are a few people named "Placenta" on record.

I like that name, but I never heard Carlin's take on it. I'll have to see if it's on youtube.
