Between the ages of 2 -6, I would help my son put pebbles in Daddy's shoes. And Daddy would make a fun scene of being fooled on April Fools' Day. As sometimes happens, the marriage fell apart and times were not rosey between me and my Ex or even between my son and his dad. But even today, at age 42, my son has those memories of his Daddy (pretending) having great discomfort putting on his shoes and being tricked and then the laughing and tickles that followed.
We have times like that without it being April Fool's day. I hope my kids remember all those fun times when they are grown. I'm not much of a fan of this day, though, as a (former) teacher or as a mother of a teenager who likes to say, "mom, I lost the $20 today.. APRIL FOOL'S!" "oh, darn, I didn't do my job... APRIL FOOL'S!" These are the kinds of jokes she and her friends do.
