She is always texting me, other friends, mine and their family members etc...about her kids dance and piano recitals giving us details of when it is and the price and then follows up to ask if we are going. One time I went and watched a 3 hour show when her kid was on stage for 1.5 minutes. I'm not a parents but none of my other friends who have kids do this. Nor did my parents when I was a kid and in shows. I remember my grandparents being there and maybe one of my friends who wanted to go. I just think it really puts people on the spot. She does the same thing with Girl Scout cookies and magazine subscriptions they are selling.

My friends were never that obnoxious. They wouldn't have stayed friends if they had been. Just say no.

Nope. Thanks for thinking of me but no. And the GS cookies would go to waste so no to that too.

I am always good for another box of Girl Scout Cookies. Other than that, nope. Not going to any shows or recitals. Not buying magazines. Not sponsoring them in the Jog-A-Thon so their school can buy laptops for all the students. Not chipping in to GoFundMe so they can go to ballet camp or on choir tour.

I will often make an exception for kids who are voluntarily participating in fundraising for legitimate charities. If a kid has it in their heart to raise money to dig a well to provide clean drinking water for a village in Africa, I think that is admirable and worth supporting, and I'll donate.

But I'm certainly not going to sit through a whole miserable two-hour middle school performance to hear them sing for two minutes. Heck, I would reluctantly do that for my own kids. LOL.

It's hard enough sitting through three hours just to see the 1.5 minutes when it's your own child.

Some parents think their children are everyone's brightest light, instead of just theirs. They're wrong.

I've never had a friend invite me to their child's school performances and if they did I would never go. That is just weird.

I have never invited a friend to a performance, nor have I been invited to one that wasn't for my own kid.

Would you invite your sister or brother and their families? She seems to invite everyone.

I might do that, yes. And I would be way more likely to go see my niece or nephew in a show that anyone else.
