I don't know if it's a generational thing or what. I am not naive to think kids don't "cuss" when around their friends or at school. Every now and then my son will "accidentally" drop a curse around me. At first my reply would just be "OK...watch it!", but now depending on the context, it really doesn't phase me (because I know he knows how to act and speak accordingly when out in public). I didn't drop any curses around my parents until maybe my mid 30s....lol. Just wanted to see what your thoughts were on this.

BTW, he is 18 now and starts college next week.

Both of mine do. They know not to do it in front of other adults because it bothers some people.

My son never did, but then again, even at 40 years old, he doesn't curse. I don't see it as an adult thing, but more of someone not educated enough to choose a better word.

No.

I know they do cuss sometimes because once when one of my sons was pretty fired up about something he dropped an F word accidentally. But he stopped and apologized and we laughed and moved on.

I appreciate the fact that they seem to understand the concept of time and place. I don't cuss around them, and I really would not want them to cuss around me or other non-peers.

I occasionally let a mild curse slip out (or a not so mild one if someone almost kills us on the highway) and don't see a big deal with it. Neither does my 19-year-old son.

He, however, chooses not to curse. He does say "frikken" and things like that sometimes.

I have a moderately autistic 18-year-old son who would add curses to his limited repertoire of words if he heard them regularly. He does say them sometimes if he's quoting from a movie or such, and I have to work to make him understand he is not allowed to say certain things. When it comes to behavior, okay and never make more sense to him than "well, you can if you're at home, but you can't do it out" etc.

My other son and I try to model good behavior when in earshot of him.

My son doesn't curse in front of me. I try not to use too much French around him so he doesn't grow up with a potty mouth.
