Our toddler, who is 2, is still using a bottle. He drinks cups as well. But he dumps them. Everywhere. He outs them into things and drinks from them. He puts them on things and sucks it off. Seriously. We have tried giving him straw cups but he spits it out into something. No haters please, this is my grandson and I am SO out of practice!

Give him the sippy cups that are similar to bottles. My kids loved the Nuby brand. Then slowly transition to a harder sippy cup.

I agree with the softer ones in the beginning. But I would go to target and just try everyone to see how tight you can screw on the lid if he is taking the lid off.

Another option would be to hold a regular cup for him and just give him the sips. Its what they did before sippee cups

Two is old enough to learn that if you're making a mess, you lose your cup. The new rule could be that he can only drink at the table. Otherwise, if you see him pulling the top off or spitting, drinking time is over and it's time to do something else.

I don't think a 2 year old should be let loose with a regular cup. Sippy cup only, preferably in the kitchen.

No rush. If he CAN drink from a regular cup, then there's no developmental need to make him always drink from one. Sippy cups or bottles are fine. Whatever works, and keeps him from destroying the house or licking his drink off somewhere gross. He's not going to be using a bottle when he's 16.

I'm in no way qualified in child development or child rearing, but this sounds like normal 2 y/o behavior.

Maybe only give him a cup at mealtimes in the high chair? It sounds like he's already doing it so there's no reason for concern, just annoying 2 year old behavior.

Definitely use sippy cups....I would not even bother with a regular cup at 2.

My youngest is 2 and I still always give her sippy cups. She is only just learning how to drink from a regular cup so sippys are safest at this age.

My boys are 3 and 4 and still use sippys (take n toss kind) for Milk and Juice, but have recently 'graduated' to regular cups for their water. (Our dining room stupidly has carpet and we don't have an eat in kitchen).

So, there is no rush with your grandson. He definitely shouldn't still be on regular bottles, but sippys are more than ok in my personal opinion!

Good luck ♡

P.S. I also liked the Nuby soft spout cups somebody else suggested with my kids.
