Does anyone have experience with enrolling their daughter in American Heritage Girls which is an alternative to Girl Scouts? I'm trying to get advice and answers because I might put my youngest daughter in it. We did GS for my older daughter but don't want to go down that path again.
I shouldn't comment too much because we haven't been in it, but reading their oaths and creeds combined with their God first values, I would be really careful that the values they teach are inline with your own.
i.e. I saw one part of the creed to keep their body and mind pure...that raises red flags for me personally because I worry what that entails.
We wont be joining as we aren't Christians, but I am very interested to learn more about it.
Even though I am a Christian, I would be very hesitant to enroll my daughter in this group. Please research carefully and maybe sit in on a couple of meetings before you make up your mind.

I'd be more than hesitant.
A quick Google search brought up enough for me to have big concerns.
Now, I guess if one is a very right-wing evangelical it may be a good fit. We are not.

I was trying to be diplomatic from what I understand it is a extremely conservative evangelical Christian group. A lot of Christians including myself aren't comfortable with their teachings.

yes, I agree. They do not seem to be representative of mainstream Christian values. The Duggar girls may feel comfortable though.

I thought it was just Christian based. I didn't know it was ring-wing evangelical. I am looking for something not so focused on cookie sales.

Apparently they were formed when a mother was offended that Girl Scouts allowed other names for God (depending on the girl's personal religious beliefs) to be used in the GS Oath. At one time they had an alliance of some sort with BSA which they severed when BSA allowed gay scouts.
They limit membership to Christians.
Heavy focus on purity and the importance of dressing modestly.
From their website:
Quote:
Purity - God calls us to lives of holiness, being pure of heart, mind, word, and deed. We are to reserve sexual activity to the sanctity of marriage, a lifelong commitment before God between a man and a woman.

Have you looked at different girl scout troops? They're all run differently based on the troop leader, parents, and girls in the troop. My girl scout troop was never big into cookie sales. We did the door to door/family/friends sales for about 2 weeks in January, but then that was it. We were asked each year if we wanted to do a cookie booth, but no one ever wanted to. There was never any pressure to sell a certain amount of cookies, and we still did a lot of fun things throughout the year.
