Two year age difference is pretty common across the board, especially at the high school level. A 15 year old girl and 17 year old boy are about even in emotional maturity.
I'm not in favor of high school students having serious relationships at all, and it would probably raise my eyebrow to see a senior dating a sophomore.
When I was in HS, no dating in HS (even 9th and 12th) was considered "wrong". It was pretty normal, overall. But of course, it was almost always the male that was older then the female.
As a mom...I always worry a little bit about age difference in HS. But I wouldn't really worry about a 2 year gap unless there was something alarming about the person my kid was dating. I would get brushed up on the legal age of consent and romeo and Juliette laws in my state and let my kid know.
30+ years ago it wasn't "wrong"... if it is today, it's because adults have simply decided it is.
Meanwhile, I know of nearly NO long term married couples who have less than 2 years age difference. My brother-in-law just had a baby with someone 9 years his junior, and my own grandparents had 7 years age difference.
I wouldn't think twice about and dating within the high school levels. As for them not lasting, true in most cases... our best friends are HS sweethearts and have over 40 years married now. You never know.

Let me introduce myself then. Hi, I'm RP, married 30 years to a man I met in college who is one year my senior.

I know a lot of people close in age to the person they married (and stayed with). I also know lots of people with age differences, even large age differences that have long and happy marriages.
