He obviously doesn't like animals, doesn't own animals and doesn't understand anyone who owns or loves an animal

Okay, I'll weigh in, even though I'm likely to be the odd one out. I'm not a fan of housepets. Animals are unpredictable and can pose a significant danger to young children. I don't dislike animals, but I think they belong outdoors. And if a trusted physician had told me that my pet was responsible for my child's health issues, I would certainly not have discounted it out of hand. So that's my two cents. Go ahead, tell me I'm an awful person.
This may be a cultural thing. Many physicians are immigrants from Muslim countries which view pets as dirty. They of course DO track in dirt, until they are housebroken eliminate in the house, pick up fleas and ticks, can transmit ringworm, cat scratch disease, can even maul children.
However, pets are a wonderful thing for children! They give love, attention, and the opportunity to learn to take care of another living being.
My point is, the individual pediatrician may not be a miserable curmudgeon just because they don't want children to live with cats and dogs. It may simply be a part of their culture.
A doctor who would dare to tell me to get rid of my pets for cultural reasons would have to either be:
1) the only pediatrician in town or the only one accepting patients
or
2) an excellent doctor otherwise or a specialist, then I'd try to ignore the cultural thing
but if not either of those, I'd be out shopping for another doctor for my kids.
I was at the pediatricians office with annie and her granddaughter and the granddaughter had her check up mom is at work so they had asked annie to take her . So while we were sitting there I heard one of the pediatricians tell the parent that they must get rid of their animals because their child was being infected by the dog and the cat in the house . Then he proceeds to tell the parent that he hates animals around kids they are nasty and they are infection breeders !!! I kid you not , I almost hit the floor . Had that been my pediatrician my kids would not being going back there . Something wrong with someone who supposedly likes children but hates animals in my opinion . Annie said she is going to let her son in law and her daughter know how this guy acts and what he said . Knowing annies daughter and son in law like I do I think this pediatrician probably lost a couple of patients .
Well, I don't see it that he hates animals. Do you know what symptoms the child had? Was she allergic? Have you been around a child with severe allergies to dogs/cats when they've been around a dog/cat? Did the doctor really say "nasty"?
There are as many pros for having pets as there are cons. I LOVE animals and have always had pets but some kids have allergies to dander and pet hair, some have been attacked by loving pets...and how about cats in a litter box stepping in their sh*t and then walking on your kitchen counters? Yum.
