I go to the zoo at *least* once a month by myself. I've never even once thought about what I might look like to anyone else, much less been "paranoid" about it.
Also, the answer is no. Zoos are not exclusively for children. If you like to go hang around children's playground structures and you have no kids, that might look weird. But going to the zoo? That's stupid.
Go and have fun. I used to go to skating rinks, both roller and ice, as an adult. Sometimes the other adults looked at me oddly, as they sat there, bored, at the snack bar. Not nervous looks, like they thought I was creeping on their kids, just mystified that I would still enjoy such an activity. Their loss, not mine. They could have been having a bit of fun and exercise, too!
You don't have to be a kid to like animals, or roller coasters, or anything else that's just pure, clean, uncomplicated fun.
My husband and I want to go tomorrow and just walk around in the 45 degree weather. Get some exercise and get rid of stress and my coworker tells me without kids it looks very strange. Now I’m all paranoid.
Your coworker is foolish. Zoos are for everyone, not just children. Children/families with children don't get to claim everything. What a silly comment.
Your coworker needs to get out more often. (To a zoo, perhaps?) I go at least once a year to a zoo or our local Aviary here in Pittsburgh as do many of my friends and coworkers--most of whom do not have children. There are people of all ages there--from people with kids, college and high school students, friends hanging out to people flying solo on a day spent at the zoo. Most zoos host various charity events that aren't exactly child-friendly, too, like Brew at the Zoo. In short, ignore your coworker's opinion and have a good time getting some fresh air and gentle exercise while visiting with the animals who live at your local zoo.

Sheesh, what a weird coworker, which planet is he/she from? and why would you give ANY credence to such a STUPID statement stop it.
Why would it be weird? Lots of weird people in the world I say. I've changed my thinking on zoos in general, about caging up wild animals for human's entertainment, but I've gone to a few zoos in my life....Pgh zoo when I was growing up in Pgh. Enjoy and have a good walk.

Don't be paranoid. Your coworker is the strange person not you.
Have fun.
