Hey everyone, thanks for taking the time to read this.

I wanted to reach out and ask for some ideas concerning ‘toys/games’ for children that help them engage in nature and develop their curiosity & sense of adventure, especially during the summer when they are out of school, but also for the winter during the holidays.

Various ideas I have so far: children’s home garden kit, giant bubble wands, a teepee for garden camping, star gazing craft sets and telescopes, fun science experiments, fishing & camping chair sets …that sort of thing – your ideas and feedback will be much more interesting than what I’ve come up with so far. Any ideas, comments or feedback is greatly appreciated – thank you so VERY much!

You don't need to spend a lot of $ on fancy things. Get a few packets of seeds and some planters and let them watch them grow.

A magnifying glass is fun for them to look at bugs, leaves, hair, etc. There are many science books for kids of all ages that can stimulate their interest. There are even some great science color books.

Baking bread and seeing how yeast works to make it rise is fun. They can watch the yeast cells divide if you have a microscope, but just seeing it bubble and then make the bread rise is fun too.

Most public libraries have huge sections on games, toys and activities for children.

I don't know how old your kids are, but sometimes, kids can have days and weeks of fun, with scrap wood and nails.

Pack a lunch and drinks. Get a blanket. Find a tree. Spread blanket under the tree. Sit down. Eat lunch and enjoy the sunshine. Lay on the blanket and watch the leaves in the tree move with the wind.

Less buying, more figuring out how to make their own stuff.

Magnifying glass, a net, a clear box, cups, strings, soap, cardboard.
