Why not? Personally, I don't care if a baby's ears or pierced or not. Not sure why anyone would care.

OMG, seriously? It is a tiny hole in a bit of flesh. Take the earring out for long enough and the hole closes up. An ear piercing is not permanent and no big deal at all.
Your "it's the baby's body" stance is ridiculous. Do you not decide what the baby eats, so the baby can choose themselves? Do you wait for the baby to bathe their own bodies when they want to?
A neighbor just had her four month old baby's ears pierced.
Why do parents do that at such an early age?
IMO because its cute. We had the first daughters ears pierced but we eventually let them heal up because she didn't take care of them and we got tired of fighting with her about....since then none of the other kids have had their ears pierced but if they want them then fine go ahead I will get it done...
When I was at the mall a couple of years back, a couple took their baby to one of those ear piercing places to get her ears pierced. The baby didn't even cry but an old lady saw what they did and decided to follow them around and cuss them out loudly making a huge scene. Threatened to call CPS and got some idiot mall cop involved. The young couple just tried their best to ignore her and eventually just left. It was weird, I didn't realize until then that this was such a big deal to some people.

Some holes will close, others will heal permanently pierced. I've put a total of six holes in my ears over the years. Half closed up with disuse, two get constant use, and one has stayed open even though I don't use it.
My mom wouldn't let my older sister pierce her ears when she was 12, so sis pierced mine instead. To get me in trouble? To flaunt authority? To create a bargaining point? I never knew, but it wasn't to be nice to me like she pretended. Those holes closed up pretty fast when mom made me take the earrings out.
It is not something I would do, but our new granddaughter has pierced ears. My DIL is from Puerto Rico, and there, a baby’s ears are pierced in the hospital right after they’re born. Her pediatrician did the deed in NC at 2 months. My son is ok with it.
My DIL is a great girl, and she is very strongly tied to her Spanish family. The baby has the last names in the Spanish way, too, which was a battle my son lost. It’s exotic, but confusing to us mainlanders.
The timing of this thread is perfect. Last night my granddaughter said she wanted to get her ears pierced! She is 9 1/2 but she is not a responsible girl and I doubt she will keep the lobes cleaned while they heal. We only have her on weekends so we can't supervise her with this and I'm not sure her mother is up to the task either.
