* at least it's not a last name (Hunter, MacKenzie, Whitney, Foster, etc.)
In the "con" column:
* it's completely trashy.
*I can't imagine a Presidential Cabinet member or Senator named Tammy Lou, and neither can you.
* You'd be stymying her future with such a down-home handle.
* She would hate you for life.
Well, we don’t have to imagine them, because they’re real: Senator Tammy Duckworth of IL and Senator Tammy Baldwin of WI.
What do you think about "Tammy Lou" as a baby name?
Sounds like a 1950's/60's name from rural Alabama or Mississippi. Maybe Tamara Louise, which I still don't really like, but I'd never call her Tammy Lou.
My two cents is that names should reflect gender, although I know that is old-fashioned, and I also think they should give some possibility of leeway. I am a fan of names that can have so many derivatives, so that a person can change her name as the mood or her life changes. (For example, an Elisabeth can be a Lisa, a Beth, a Lisbeth, an Elisa,, etc.)
(However, to answer the OP, my opinion is that I don't think that Tammy Lou does not sound very sophisticated, to say the least.)
It sounds like a 55 year old woman. And the picture it paints in my head is not pretty
I'm a 56 year old woman and I didn't have any friends named Tammy Lou or anything close to it. Maybe my mother, who is now 79, did. I'll ask her. Her best friend's name in high school was Peggy Lou. Close enough.
