I would. I think I'd be more inclined to adopt though.

Does your wife want kids? She will never let you live it down! Might should have been on the same page before you married.
Yes hunter and we were but there was a derailment as she was diagnosed with Lukemia(AML) at 32. Doc said she is basically "cured" now and they chances of it coming back are slim to none and having kids is okay. Unfortunately it's now 6-7 years later and the age things is a slight concern.

I had my son at 42. He gives meaning to my life in a way that makes the idea of trading that off for retiring earlier a laughable concept.

and fwiw, he loves being an only child

What's so great about retiring early?

Seriously? Ask most people if they had the choice.

So glad your wife is better! Must have been terrifying.

I'm sliding into 58 and am undecided whether I'll retire at 62.

You can't really ask that question to a parent after they've had kids. I'm not sure I can go back at this point in time. Would I love a weekend "vacation" where I can live life like I did in my 20's where I slept in til 9AM and then did whatever I wanted and stayed out late? Sure. But i'm going to want to go back to my kids as I can't forget them.

Did I want kids? Initially no. But now that I have two of my own, I am glad I did. Sure, there are things I miss from my kid-free days, but none of that is really important to me these days.

My brother and I, and most siblings I see today, fought like two cats in a sack. I wouldn't have been any lonelier without him than I was with him! I'm sure my son would like to have someone around all the time, but his dream is that they would just be quietly waiting in a closet somewhere so he could pull them out whenever he felt like playing and that they would play and build all the things he wants to. When we're at an arcade or something, he definitely doesn't wish there was someone else there getting half the playing money.

No question I would have children again. As I say to them, "They are my "best thing."
