Me and my husband have 9 children between us. 7 from his previous marriage 1 from my previous marriage and 1 together. And co-parenting with a jerk is the hardest thing I've ever done.
This particular instance is our oldest boy (14) wants to play professional baseball as a catcher. Hes team captain and hes really good. So we found an awesome travel team that regularly has scouts attend games. But it's expensive. We are willing to pay for it out of pocket ourselves and she is refusing to let him play on the grounds that we are "spoiling him". Its so monumentally frustrating.
Anyone have any experience with impossible co-parenting and have advice??
How about having a coach speak with her or a couple of coaches set up a meeting, stroke her ego, whatever it takes if the boy really is that good and really wants it.
She is using a lot of "pulled from thin air" excuses. Which would be reasonable excuses if she applied the same standard to herself. She said he was fighting with his brothers and shouldnt get to play.. except they are always all fighting, and she never stopped him before. She said the practice is too often... except she signed him up for 2 teams this fall and he practiced 4 nights a week and played 2-3 games every weekend. She said the practice is too late but his team last year she signed him up for practice at the same times. She said it's too expensive, we told her we will pay for him. Then she told the boy that he cant play because his father is just spoiling him. It seems to just come down to she doesnt his father doing it with him.

Man. What a shame. Sports is great for kids. Keeps them sharp, strong, and focused. Also proven to help with academics. I think any kid who is razor focused on something should be encouraged and helped by his/her parents. I would play up the academic angle and the potential for a college scholarship.

Best of luck.
We agree 100%. Working toward a future he can be excited about is something important to us. He cried when he found out he made the team. And he sat on my couch tonight and cried because he thinks its being taken away
