For those who did not have a chance to read the story, the mother left her twin babies at home alone when she ran out to get cigarettes. She left the gas stover burners on to keep the place warm. When she returned, the place was in flames. Very tragic. I think I would kill myself.
How many mommies have left their sleeping babies for a while to sit down and eat or take a shower?
Is it that uncommon to run across the street to get something?
Sitting down to eat in the same home that your children are in is not a comparable scenario. "You" are in the home with them.
I would say it is HIGHLY UNCOMMON to run across the street to get something. At least in my home, it has never happened and I don't know anyone that would leave their children in their home to run across the street for anything, let alone, cigarettes.

Hmmm. Interesting.
Anyhow, it's a sad story. She didn't deserve to lose her babies. I wonder how long she was actually gone for. And I wonder how the stove set off a fire. I guess something could have fallen into the flame?
If she had done the same thing and had to go and get formula, would your opinion have changed?
No. Using stove burners to heat a house is just plainly dangerous. They are not made to be heating devices.
