I never bought one for my daughter but that was more because she never had any interest in them than being against it. Come to think of it, when I was growing up I knew a lot of boys that had one but no girls. Are kids today even allowed to have them?
My kids (boys and girl) have never had one. And none of their friends have had them. I'm not sure I even knew anyone who had one when I was growing up. The nerf guns, however, are something I see more often. My daughter had a few of those, as did my brothers growing up.
One of my sons had a BB gun as a young teen. We had lots of rules regarding its use; target practice only, nobody else in the yard while shooting, couldn't leave our large property, etc. His interest died pretty quickly and we gave it away to a friend of my husbands.

Well i dont have kids but i got my first BB gun when i was maybe between 5 and 8.My 7 year old cousin has a pellet or BB gun but were always sure to be safe around them.I plan on giving my kids air guns when they are young.I live in Texas and kids can shoot bb guns where i live.
My kids have Nerf and airsoft. The nerf guns are for play, the airsoft are for target practice in the garage. Both kids (17 and 14) also know how to shoot a handgun.
My brother did. Air pumped. BAM! Smacked me in the backside one day. That hurt like no tomorrow.
I still recall the internal scream as it took my breath away.
Luckily back in those days , we had foot patrol in our neighborhood. All it took was our Aunt Marcel to let the patrol man know my brother had that "toy" , and it was taken from him. Understand this was the era of civil riots and the last thing the officer needed was some teen randomly poppin folks as they were strolling to their homes.
He is dern near 60 now and recently he spoke about his childish behavior. That included the air bb gun. Never did apologize to me....so guess he is still working on that childish behavior.
Yes they did, my husband taught them gun safety and we never had any problems. Later on in their teen years the boys also had .22 rifles again never a problem. Only used with adult supervision, gun locked up when not in use.
When my kids were growing up, I got them a BB gun. They only used it when I was present; otherwise, it was locked up. There was an open field behind our house, so I set up targets for them. They had to wear eye protection.
When they got older, they graduated to a single shot .22. Again, eye protection, plus earplugs. Then I taught them to handle a .22 semi-automatic rifle and a .22 semi-automatic handgun. When they got a little larger, then 20 and 12 gauge shotguns shooting trap, though my daughter did not like shooting the shotguns. For the shotguns, we added earmuffs on top of the earplugs.
They are both on their own now. Neither own guns, but they know how to handle them. When they come to visit, we sometimes go out to the range to shoot (i.e., Dragonman's).
And I am now teaching the wife to shoot a .22 semi-automatic rifle, though I had to get her a left handed model.
All our guns and ammunition are locked up in safes when not in use.
No, I didn't let my kids have BB guns or any other guns beyond water guns and nerf guns.
