I'm not a parent, but I have 10yo and 12yo nephews. Lately all they want are gift cards and I'm fine with that, but my brother doesn't help me in the department of "how much" is okay? My mom doesn't help either cuz she spoils them rotten. LOL.

I realize some people can afford more, but the things my nephew's want are in the $70-$100 range and that's outrageous IMHO. I'm not wealthy and kinda struggling right now. I'd like to give $30-$40, but I feel like that's not a lot in this day and age. $50 sounds like too much for one kid. I don't think I ever got anything like that from any of my Aunt's.

As a parent, how much is "just right" for an Aunt to give?

In your situation 25 each is generous. They can save up for what they want.

In my family the aunts and uncles do not buy Christmas gifts for their nieces and nephews, nor do the nieces and nephews buy gifts for their aunts and uncles. With nine nieces and nephews $70 to $100 each would be quite a bundle of cash. Even $25 or so would be quite a bundle (especially if you start to have more nieces and nephews.

I have no "direct" nieces or nephews but at one time had "in-law" ones via my then-husband's brother, and spent $25 on each (luckily there were only three) during that time.

If the OP's nephews/nieces have either an iPad or iPhone, how about a $25 iTunes gift card? Then they can put it toward whatever app or game they want.

Before we had our son we would do $50 each for each of our 6 nieces/nephews for Christmas and birthdays. We arent hurting for money but now that we have a son I've knocked it down to 25 each. Once they turn 18 they'll be cut off for gifts(besides maybe a college graduation or a wedding)

We have a son now and he is our priority. He gets every last penny when we die

Give them $25 each, and don’t feel guilty. You are not their cash cow. By the way, do they give you gifts?

I would probably give $25. That was my budget for my two nephews this year (I have lots of nieces and nephews, but we only give gifts if we are actually spending Christmas with them; otherwise it would be out of control). $30 is generous.

I have two nephews who have everything they could ever want and need and then some. They are 14 and 12. We try to get them "practical gifts" each year. Last year we gave $75 (total) to one of the Amerian Ninja Warrior gyms, and they loved it. This year we got them two transformers to assemble for $75 total. Next year we'll probably get them a gift card to an escape room. Anyway, so we give about $40 for Christmas each year per kid and $50 cash for their birthdays each year. Half of their birthday goes towards college (well. . .we hope it does haha)

We don't have any children of our own. But their parents give us a Christmas gift of some sort each year.

Anyway, don't feel pressured to spend a lot. It is the thought that counts. Like others said $25 per kid is nice.

I think $25. Is good. You do not need to give beyond your means, or set a precedent for the future that will be too much to continue. The kids should learn to appreciate the thoughtful gift, not fund their every demand.

Give however much you feel comfortable giving.

Keep in mind your nephews are getting presents from other people, so it only takes 3-4 people giving them $25 gift cards to cover the $70-100 thing they want. Also, you not providing the entire cost of what they want, will help teach your nephews the value of saving.
