The names on that list sounded a whole lot better than some of the 'made up' names I've seen and heard. You can add 'lyn' or 'ly' to just about any girl's name and make it sickeningly sweet. I'm not a fan of 'Amberly', 'Bramberly' or 'Davelyn'.

One of the names I had chosen for our child was Tamerlane until I read that he was a Mogul conqueror and a rather bloody one at that. Then, I saw a name on the credits for a movie: Gaetan. Oops, Patient Zero for AIDS. My inspiration must have been raging maternal hormones.

I went to school with a "Karan" whose parents were Karl and Marian. You're right, this is nothing new.

I think some of the "made up" names are just as difficult and hard to pronounce as the "made up" spellings of more common names.

I remember how people made fun of Gyneth Paltrow for naming her daughter Apple. I always thought "Apple" had a very pleasant connotation. Apple blossoms, nice-smelling fruit, pretty rosy color...and I thought "One can certainly do worse, than to name their little girl "Apple".

Remember Marjoe Gortner? His name is a combination of Mary and Joseph.

I've heard a lot worse names than the ones on that list.

Isn't Faelina the girl at Rosa's cantina in the Marty Robbins song El Paso from the 50s?

We’re having twins... I was thinking perhaps we’d name the happy little accidents “Opps” and “Oh s**t”, but their soon to be grandma objected.

Years ago I had a student whose first name was spelled "Kissizzy". On day 1 when I sounded it out, she angrily told me that it is pronounced "Kizzy".

I had another named Latwanda, who the boys called La-twaat. Who thinks up this shyte and then attaches it to a defenseless newborn?

Oh, and a girl named "Phelony". And a boy named "Your Majesty".
