Just curious....do your teenagers (girls) spend a lot of time away from home with their friends on the weekend? It's funny...mine turned 16, started to drive and I never see her anymore! Is this common? Acceptable? Just want some feedback!
They are becoming a woman, and one day you would have to let her go and get her own life. I believe it is a common behavior for someone that age to be out all the time. Yes you probably worry about her safety, but she is old enough to take care of herself. I am sure you raise her well.
Well, my DD spends quite a bit of time home on the weekends and during the week for that matter but she is allowed to have her boyfriend over(whom we are very fond of), in her bedroom, with the door closed. With that I will add that we have a VERY small (1,000 sq ft house) and we are VERY close to her room. I guess I would rather have that than her "hiding" and doing "less desirable" things elsewhere.KWIM? So, yes, she spends plenty of time at home AND with us as well. Its hard though. When she was 13 she wanted to spend alot of time with her friends but I would have just liked her just to stay in the yard. Ha Ha. That wasn't gonna work though. lol
Our DD13 spends quite a bit of time at home but usually has a friend here. I am sure once she gets her license we will see her at meal time, maybe . Yes, teens being gone a lot is very normal and it is a good thing as long as they aren't getting into trouble. It is a good, safe way to start breaking away from you, to start becoming more independent. She will graduate in 2 years and off to college, not a good time to be away from mom and dad for the first time.
None! Ever since she started driving, that was the end of her. She's always with her friends and never wants to spend time with the family. You're not alone. I guess this is part of being a teen and growing up. I agree about it being girls too. I have a 14 yr old son and he spends most of his time home.
We did not allow this. We put limits on the use of a car, making it clear it was a family car. We did not forbid reasonable, and sometimes excessive, social life but always required homework to be done, chores to be done, and there to be a reasonable start and stop time for the activities, and to know how to contact her. If we couldn't the next time we put the stops on it.
