Just wonder what you think about this. I know many grandparents who are 35-40 years older than their grandchild. But my parents are 90 years older than our youngest child...
Is it as odd as it seems?.
Yes it's odd but it's cool! Your parents must have had you in their 40s & you had your youngest in your 40s?
My oldest child was born on my dad's 45th birthday & my parents were 65 & 66 when my youngest was born. I was 42 when my 1st grandchild was born & she is only 5 years older than my youngest. My dad is now 79 & has 7 great-grandchildren from his 15 grandchildren. So far at least.
I don't know any grandparents 35-40 years older than their grandkids. Most parents in my social network are 30-40 years older than their children.
My mother is 55 years older than her oldest grandchild and 75 older than the youngest. My MIL is 59 years older than her oldest grandchild and 69 older than the youngest. But her kids are not done. DH is her first child and he has siblings in their early 30s that could still have kids for some more years.
OP - let your kids enjoy their grandparents for however long they have them. Lots of parents died when their children were very young and their grandkids never met them
I have a friend whose son was born in 1998. My friend was 59 at the time, and his Dad was born in 1889, and remarried after his first wife died. Heck, my friend, born in 1938, had a half sister born in 1911. It happens. My MIL, on the other hand, had a grandchild at 36, and when she died at 79 last year, had two great-great grandchildren.
One of my grandfathers was born 104 years earlier than I. And the other grandfather was born 89 years earlier. One grandfather was 35 years older than my grandmother on that side. On the other side, my grandfather was 16 years older than my grandmother.
Wow, that's amazing. You blew us out of the water!
How did that happen? WHat were the ages at birth, etc.?

So cool, you have both ends of the spectrum! 109 years difference between grandchild and grandfather.......unreal. I thought 90 was a lot!
And then you have an example of what I was talking about..........people who are 35 or 40 when their grandchild is born.

My parents were 36 and 38 when I was born. My wife is a lot younger than I am (18 year difference). So I was 52 when our youngest was born a few years ago.
I am very glad that our kids have gotten to know their grandparents. Dad is in a nursing home but still fairly sharp......he has been "locked down" for a couple weeks. We all went over with big homemade signs the other day and "visited" him from right outside his window, while we talked with him on the phone.
Crazy times!
Maineguy, to be a grandparent at the age of 35, one or possibly BOTH mothers involved had to be juveniles.
So not a great thing.
I agree that 90 is way out on the other end, but minors having babies for a couple generations isn't really something we would call the "norm" even if it's common in some communities.

Why is this an appropriate topic for parenting?
And all it will lead to is a rush of judgmental posts and people getting angry.
