Start with taking him to the toilet just before bed. Get him to sit on the toilet and familiarise himself. Maybe start toilet training for bedtime and make sure he doesn't have a drink just before bed to form a routine and no wetting the bed. That helped to.

Or you could do a reward chart. And once he has mastered it, treat him to something! That way it gives him something to work towards, and the same time create the habit of becoming independant
