Mine is 12 and had some things that he apparently developed out of. But, I would also factor in any medication he is taking as a potential cause. I would think the pediatrician took that into account but I am stating it just in case.

This is relatively common, and there is no "test". It is likely a transient tic, but it's probably going to happen on and off for a few years. If it bothers HIM, you should treat.
