She cared for his wounds. I'm not sure if they fell in love and had a relationship or not but he returned to Bulgaria without her and married a fellow Bulgarian girl. They had a daughter and named her Ivanica like that nurse. It's not a name found in Bulgaria, we use Ivan(k)a or Vania here.

Naming your child after a person who saved your life is a lot different than naming your child after a co worker or childhood crush.

It's not if that person unknowingly prevented depressive thoughts in a hard moment or even saved you from sucide even if just by showing you not all people are evil or jerks. It's not like you meet good teachers that often, even less so great ones that are worth remembering their names (most teachers are hate-worthy jerks or nutty, angry, OCD, etc.). Most people who become teachers are unlikable personalities, I give you that.

And what if looking back that childhood crush is actually the perfect model daughter in addition to always getting positive nostalgia vibes of sweetness just reminiscing about her?

We named my youngest daughter after my oldest daughter's Pound Puppy, a popular stuffed animal in 1986.

We told our oldest daughter she could participate in naming her sister, so she happily suggested "Sarah Melissa" the name that came with the Pound Puppy.

Mom and Dad prevailed on youngest's first name, but her middle name is, indeed, Melissa.

I know someone who named her only child after an acquaintance who said he'd pay her $1000 to do that (he had no children). She did. Mother and father did not need the money, both had very good jobs, good benefits.

I would try to avoid a name in the top 100 list of popular names. I could make an exception for naming a child for my parents or grandparents. I could also see using the middle name of a person you wanted to name a child after if the first was awful.

If there is a lot of names you like.....put them in a hat and draw one out.

Seriously? You want to tell your wife you want to name the child after an old crush? Then at some point you tell your daughter she's named for an old crush and that's why her name is special to you? @@

I tried to choose somewhat distinctive names that were neither common nor exotic. I did not succeed with #1, whose name turned out to be quite common. I did better with #s 2 and 3.

I certainly did not choose names of friends!
