My 11 y.o is healthy and keeps active with swimming and soccer. He’s not overweight and is average height for his age. He's told me he’s worried about his bum - it’s huge and looks big on his stocky frame. Finding pants that fit is a chore. He says he has a ‘girl’s ass’ and that an older kid at school has teased him and another boy in his class tried to slap it, playfully.

I've told him to ignore and report any taunts but I know that kids don't always address that stuff directly. I don’t know what to say other than reassure him that as he grows up having a bigger butt will no longer be an issue. Anyone else experienced similar problems with unwanted attention/bullying of this nature?

This is sexual harassment. Have you explained thus to him and that it needs to be taken very seriously?

I haven't used those words specifically in talking to him. Apparently it's only happened on two occasions. I mentioned it to his teacher too and they've assured me it'll be zero tolerance from here on.

1. I know this will not help but my brother sported a very big arse from maybe 9 - 13. Then morphed into a lean guy nearly 6'8" with a small rear.

2. Also as he ages a little running would likely help along with a sound diet and some weight training.....odds are his real will proportionally diminish via doing nothing.

The next time he's at the doc's. ask about his hormone levels. Heck the doc. may say he's too young for any of that to matter.

My son also had a bubble butt until his mid teens and then it flattened like a pancake.

If it was a girl you would agree with me 100%. Double standards work both ways.

It's not sexual harassment unless there was sexual gratification involved.

At most, this is simple harassment. (Teasing.)

I think it's a stretch to say that what occurred to the OP's son (which I don't condone at all and wish for it to get nipped in the bud yesterday) is sexual harassment. To be sexual harassment under these facts, the attacks would have to be sexual in nature. I'm just not convinced that this form of teasing and bullying is sexual in nature. Not based on what was reported.

I don't think it was anything directly sexual either...but I'm worried it could become that. And frankly I'm not surprised if it did.
