I thought this was funny and telling...
My six year old boy and I were reading a bedtime story. In the story a question was posed to him. "What does your dad do?" "What does your mom do" in regards to an occupation.
He replied for his dad "he deals with money" (meaning mutual funds)
For me, his mom, he replied "she stays at home". I smiled and asked him what this meant.
He replied "she reads all day".
From a six year old's perception, I better get off my duff! I gently reminded him that I help him with homework, clean, cook, bake, run him around to various activities, etc. But from the mouths of babes is some truth to what he said.

Mine told me when she was about 6 or so that I baked cookies and bread all day. So she could have them when she came home from school.

Mine says that I play with their baby sisters all day (I have four girls--two in school and two at home). When I ask them who makes the beds, vacuums, does laundry, straightens their toys, etc., their reply was "Lucia" who is our weekly cleaning lady. I further explained that Lucia doesn't come every day so Mommy does all that stuff and my 6 yo told me, "No you don't. That's housework and Daddy says you don't know how to do that!"

There are more stay at home dads now in days. In fact there 3 dads on my block that do that.
Women are gaining ground on men in the work force and making higher salaries.
We should make a thread, what do stay at home dads do?

Read a book? My mom didn't have time to sit down, let alone read a book.

My mom isn't a stay at home mom but my 8 year old step sister referred to my mom as the "maid."

I guess it's okay that she realizes that my mom does just about EVERYTHING around the house while her dad sits on his arse...
