Hi everyone! I have been hearing about the new HPV vaccine lately and just wanted to see what the general consensus was. Will your daughter be getting it? Why or why not? Has she gotten it? Had any problems from it?
Since my daughter is only 10 months I don't have to worry about it just yet. I like a vaccine to be around a while before I make any decisions. I know 2 girls who have had it with no problem and I know 3 with minor side effects and one who has been in and out of hospitals for months.
I would be more likely to get it if it protected against all kinds of hpv that caused cancer or at least half, but it doesn't.
I'm sure there will be alot more evidence/research/case studies by the time my daughter reaches the age to vaccinate.
No, my daughter will not be getting this vaccine. She's only 5, but even in four years, I would not feel comfortable giving it to her. I do not feel that the possible benefit of the vaccine (potentially reducing her risk of contracting a normally self-resolving preventable illness that rarely turns into a serious problem) outweigh the possible risks (there are issues with the vaccine potentially causing autoimmune type symptoms among other things in girls) of this particular vaccine.
my 15yo daughter got it, my 19yo stepdaughter did not.
my 19yo- at first her insurance wouldnt cover it, then she just decided she didnt want it.
my 15 yo- we have a history in our family. other than being much more painful than other shots, no side effects.
We were discussing this topic in class last night and I came across this article. A couple of reasons why I WOULD'T give this vaccine are in this article.
The main one being that IT DOESN'T GIVE ENOUGH PROTECTION FOR ENOUGH STRANDS OF HPV TO RISK/ADD YET ANOTHER VACCINE
