My nieces alway got $7.00 an hour for the first kid, and $5.00 an hour for each additional kid. They started babysitting when they were 12.

I think it depends on the area, but I paid about $7/hr for 3 kids in S. GA. I would give a little bonus for any time after midnight. Where I live now, teenage sitters expect $5/hr per child, and I now have 4 kids, so that is insane, but I have a friend who won't let her girls accept more than $12/hr for 3-4 kids. There is a teenager in another friend's homeschool group who is asking for $8/hr for up to 4 kids for Friday nights. I told her to forward me the information - most of the friends I have that are part of that group have 3-4 kids- as I have a feeling this girl is going to be booked out for months ahead. For $8/hr my husband and I might actually get to go to a movie every now and then.

Have only used a sitter once, paid $10.00 an hour. Was watching ours and a few other friend's children - parents were all going to the same event. She fed them, sat with them, put them to bed.

More than that. She's watching three kids, one of them in diapers. One of those kids alone is worth $5/hr. You're talking about an 8 hr day, if the sitter is there from 6pm to 2am. Would YOU like to get paid only $40 for an entire day's work?

Double it, and you're in the ballpark.

I'd say $50 is good. The littles will be in bed at what, 8:00? And the 9 year old by 9? Have them fed and in their pj's before you leave, and all she'll have to do is play with them, change the baby, and put them to bed, then she'll have 5-6 hours to read or watch TV. Sounds like a good deal to me.

It depends on what time they go to bed, if she will be making, feeding, and cleaning up dinner. I say $7/hr if she doesn't have to do much, closer to $10/hr if she is doing all the dinner stuff.

I paid my sitter (14 y/o) $5/hr for 2 kids that were already fed and in PJ's, up for about an hour before she put them to bed.

Have the kids do showers in the morning or do them yourself before you leave.

I would pay 5-7 dollars an hour, if I am going out for a longer period of time, and they babysitter has to fed, play and put my child to sleep 7.00 per hr. If it is only for a couple of hours, while the child is sleeping or close to going to bed 5.00 per hr, they don't have to do anything but put her in her jammies and she will go to bed by herself.

My BIL lives in WV, they used to pay 3.00 per hr to an old couple, to watch 2 kids. They would walk the oldest to the bus stop and watch the youngest for for the day she was 2, they just had to send her lunch.

I wouldn't pay anything less than $50, probably around $75 because 2 am is practically overnight. It depends on how your kids behave, how early they go to bed, what the sitter has to do, how far the sitter has to drive, etc...

Pay well especially if you don't use the sitter often, that's what I think. If you dont' use him or her often, they have no reason to put you as top priority.

You want to pay well enough that they want to come back and sit for you again.

I would say as a rule of thumb no matter how "little" the sitter is doing you should never expect to pay them under minimum wage unless they are a mothers helper.

When in doubt I usually use this website: Babysitter tips, how-to's, advice: How much should you pay a babysitter?
and for my area I find that rate to be about 1-2 dollars too high.. so i would see what the rate is and then perhaps subtract 1-2 dollars if it seems outrageous.
