Hm. I guess its just one of those things some people do and some people don't. Like eating fish on Christmas Eve? That cannot be just my family but a lot of people I know do not do that.
My daughter is turning 7 on the 7th (in a couple wks!) and wants to get her ears pierced. She is pretty excited about her birthday this year.
well,it was big in the mid-west.I'm from Wi,and grew up knowing about it,as did my husband. One of my son's had his "Golden Birthday" last Sept and had a special birthday for it.It was VERY golden for him,he was born on 9-9-99 and turned 9.
My grandparents, my parents, my husband as well as most of his family and I have all known about golden birthdays. On my side of the family, at least, we have always tried to make it an extra special birthday. I even held a surprise party for my husband's golden birthday. (he was 27) My little sister just had her golden birthday not to long ago and my folks did something a lttle extra special for her. I have had two kids so far have their golden birthdays. The others will be 17, 23 and 30 when they have their golden birthdays and if I'm around when those days come I know I will try and make it an even more special birthday.
BTW: I had my golden birthday on Fri. the 13th. I had a costume party and then we all went roller skating (without the costumes) and then afterwards all the girls stayed for a sleepover.
I've heard of it - I'm 33. Mine was when I turned 18 & my mom had a big party, not expansive but I'll never forget it.
I haven't thought of it much for my kids. My dd had her's when she was 1 and of course it was a big party. My ds will have his when he's 13. My youngest will have to wait the longest, when she's 20.
