My husband and I were BOTH laid up with a bad stomach bug on Monday. With an 8 month old and a 3 year old, and no wonderful grandmother to come and rescue us-LOL-we knew the day was going to be a challenge to say the least. We set up the DVD with the 3 year old's top 5 picks and told her, "Mommy and daddy have boo-boos in our bellies so we're not going to be able to do a lot today." She says, "It's otay mommy...I'll be the mommy!" I just wanted to squeeze her. My uncle called that night and she gets on the phone to talk to him. She says to him, "YOU CAN'T COME HERE." I hear him ask why, and she says, "Mommy and Daddy have bugs in their belly!"

Sounds good. Enjoy it while you can. Once they are in school, with a zillion activities and homework, etc. there will be no "sick days" for mom and dad," bugs in bellies" or not!

awww... you know, you have a kid with the right attitude. Not worried that momma and daddy aren't going to entertain them, but letting you know they will (to the best of their young ability) take care of you. You have done well in teaching compassion and responsibility.

Not necessarily! I have to brag on my DD here. Last year, we took a "real" family vacation for the first time (ie not going to visit relatives). DD was getting ready to graduate HS and we knew it might be the last time everyone was on the same schedule so we splurged and went to Mexico. Had fun. Got home and within 8 hours I had full-on Montezuma's Revenge. Bless her heart, DD was up with me all night "mothering"...I will remember that as long as I live.

Thanks rockinmomma~that made me feel good.

Maciemom-brag away...that is a good daughter you have too . My cousin is like that too. She's 22 now, but she is so caring and selfless when it comes to others~always has been. I will consider myself very lucky if my girls turn out half as good as her.
