Have you ever been the parent of a grieving child who lost their 'lovey', their 'woogie', that is, their favorite blanket or plush toy, stuffed animal? Did you know there's a site that searches for these lost loves? LOL I came across it accidentally when I started a search for a stuffed animal from the mid 70s. Check it out.
Plush Memories Lost Toys Search Service (http://plushsearch.dirtybutter.com/search/label/Searching%20for%20a%20toy - broken link)
Funny. My D couldn't relax(suck her thumb) w/o her "raggie". Raggie was a cloth diaper. I thought it would make it easy to replace...uh, no. It had to be washed umpteenth times to achieve a softness, and it had a particular scent. By the time she was a toddler, I was down to about 3 which she found acceptable.
One day we were at the circus, and I watched a woman w/a baby drop a diaper...a very worn diaper! She didn't notice, and I swiped it. Great find!
Sooo...what I'm getting to... She can't use this website to find me, right??

My son lost his stuffed dog once at a Disney World hotel when it was accidentally scooped up with the sheets and sent to the laundry. I called housekeeping who put me through to the Disney laundry facility so that I could describe the item. After describing all of the stuffed dog's unique physical features, I was embarrassed to hear myself adding "His name is Baboo". Like he might come when they called! Agh!
In true Disney fashion, Baboo was located within eight hours and came home to our hotel with his new stuffed friend Pluto!

we learned early on to buy duplicates of "favorite" dolls and blankets, and keep them on hand for emergencies, for lost precious items, for travel, and for replacement when they wore out.
with one lavender plush blanket, we could not find a duplicate, so we cut the blanket in half, and then in half again for spares to have on hand. Amazing how such a simple step can prevent so much upset, and keep so many family members happy!
that particular purple blanket was my eldest son's treasure, he could not go sleep in the car or at home without cuddling up with it. What seemed to soothe him was picking off the lint fuzzies from it. It was so cute, he would wake up from his nap with purple lint fuzzies all in his hair. His name for the blanket was "fuzzy" but he left out the Z sounds, so say fuzzy with out the z sounds ("fu-ee"), and that's what he called it. i love these stories! i love my kids!
We buy duplicates as well. We had 3 for my son and 2 for my daughter.
They both sleep with ALL of them. So now they cry when the loose ANY of them. hahah.
that plan backfired.
