What time do your teens need to come in during the summer? I have a 14 year old son who is pretty dependable and honest. I also have (for the summer) my 14 year old step son is who is the TOTAL OPPOSITE of dependable.
Their dad thinks they should have the same curfew and I'm willing to go w/ that, but I can guarantee that in the next 2 weeks, my step will screw that up. (sorry, just needed to rant - has NOTHING to do w/ the question).
Anyway, I was thinking 9 pm on weekdays and 930 on weekends?
My older girls, now 23 and 27, were expected to be in our yard by the time it got dark during the summer, no matter where they had been, unless they were at a movie that ended after dark. Coming inside would depend on what else was going on. If it was the neighbor girl from across the street, they could hang out in our yard for awhile after dark. Probably by around 10 on weeknights since we had to get up and work in the mornings, but definitely later on the weekend nights.
could I suggest at least 30 minutes to hour before city/town curfew. Here is is something like 10pm so I would put it about 9pm for both boys with a great understanding that any errors will cost time and personal curfew will be earlier. Have them both sign a contract stating that and diplay contract where they will see everyday along with a copy of the city curfew laws.
Just a suggestion I know a bit harsh but we have local brats here and I don't want to paint my fence again. Not that is what your kids do I am just saying sometime be home before SUNSET is a great curfew it is what I had all my life till high School then I had be home an hour after the game.... I was cut a little slack on game pizza party nights.

That sounds reasonable for that age, or just before it gets dark.
I think having the same curfew for two boys the same age is the fair way. If one shows that they can't handle it, then you can make changes as punishment, but preemptive punishment just shows that you are starting out not trusting them.
When mine were 14, a couple of years ago, I set the curfew at 10:00 during the summer. It was mainly because they had to be picked up, so letting them stay out later inconvenienced me when I'd rather be getting ready for bed.
Special events allowed for a later curfew. Once the kids hit high school, I think a later curfew is ok, probably 11:00 until age 16, then midnight.
No child should be just hanging out on the street. They should be in the care of an adult at a responsible persons house.
