Ok. Sorry to drag this thread back up. I didn't want to start a whole new one since I might only need a couple of answers.

My 17 month old is now 32 inches and too big for her infant carrier. I want to get the Britax that she can rear face as long as possible.

I have a Cheve Aveo. It has 3 latches (middle and ends) and a teather ONLY at the top.

Is the Britax still the best option???

Not that I'm planning on kids soon but what if I have a newborn?
It doesn't seem like there will be room in the car for both of the kids who will both have a Britax?????
Does the forward facing kid move to the side and the newborn goes in the middle??
Do the kids share a latch?
Can I buy a tether and have it installed somehow so my 17 month old can rear face with a teather?

For some reason this whole car seat deal is driving me crazy and is super complicated.

I think in the future, when we have more kids a van is the ONLY way two of these seats can fit in the back seat of any car.

I'm looking at the Boulevard one by the way. Anyone know of any coupons or why they are so cheap on this site:

no one in the middle. One kid on each end. Not sure what you mean by a "tether only at the top"

There is a teather thingy at the top of my back seat in the rear. But that is for forward facing.

The Britax and Sunshine Kid's Radian that rearface allow for the tether option as well. The videos show it at the bottom of the car like in the foot area in the back seat but behind the center council.

The web page said you can have them installed but says nothing more about it.

So you can put a newborn on the side?

I have heard that the center is the safest place, but there is no law that says you can't put a child in the side seat. I've never heard of a tether for a rear facing seat, except for in one of these threads, so I don't know anything about those. If it is a new thing, maybe most cars don't have them yet.

Thanks. The one I'm looking at has a teather for rear facing. My car comes with a forward facing but the car seat safety site says the dealership may add one for free.

I guess it is the newer ones

Sunshine Kids Radian XT convertible car seat | Free Shipping (http://www.elitecarseats.com/Sunshine-Kids-Radian-XT.pro - broken link)

I'm waiting for the dealership/parts to call me back. They said they had a request like that a couple of months ago but not sure if you have to get it added at the actual dealership you baught at or any Chevy.

I guess this is the safest nowadays.

Okay. When you have another child, you will put one on the passenger side and one on the driver's side. It's fine to have a newborn on either side of the car.

Check your owner's manual to see if two carseats can share a tether hook. In my van, for example, the back tether hook (for the last row) is able to support two carseats. In the middle row, though, each seat has its own hook. It really depends on how it's reinforced.

When you tether a rearfacing carseat, you don't use the rear tether hook. So, for example, if you have another child when your daughter is three, she will be forward facing by that time. You would tether her carseat to the tether hook, and your baby, if in a Britax, will be tethered towards the front of the car. By the time your baby is ready to be turned forward facing, chances are that your daughter will be ready for a booster, which you do not tether. (Chances are also good that by that time, you will have a different car, of course. )

When you tether rearfacing, the Britax comes with a clip to make your own tether. You simply attach it to the bottom of one of the front seats. It's easy, and you don't have to have anything retrofitted.

When you tether RF you can just tether to anything that is bolted to the floor, you don't get anything installed by the dealer. The people who get them installed by the dealer are typically those who want a top tether for FF but their car is an older car that didn't come with it. My RF Britax is tethered to the seat base of the front seat. If you search car-seat.org you will see threads with pictures of how to do this.

Since you said you want to RF as long as possible, another thing to consider is that the new Graco My Ride can RF to 40 pounds, which is higher than the Britax now.

Whether you can share LATCH probably depends on your car, so I'd look in your manual for that. My car cannot share, so I have both kids outerboard. If you can, you can still have one in the middle and one outerboard if they fit, but in that case you would put the FF kid in the middle and the RF infant outerboard. The rule is that the least protected kid goes in the most protected space, so the FF seat is less protected than the RF seat and goes in the middle.

They are cheap on that site I think because they are discontinued colors. I got one of mine from that site too. It is legit. You just don't have much choice in which colors, you just have to buy the sale colors. That's a great deal though, I'd get it.

Thanks guys. You know, I tend to retain stuff pretty well. I had trouble with sine, cosine andtangent in highschool math. Didn't matter how much someone told me about them or how hard I studied them I just couldn't get it.

Same with the carseat stuff. I think if I had the seat right in front of me or I could find a video that showed me everything it would be much easier.

I didn't hear from the dealership but I'm going to read my manual again for the car. I don't recall any info on the tether being in it but I'm going to look again.

All seats some with ONE base right?

And from what I see there is only ONE tether in the middle of the back seat by the window. Then they four (not three like I though) latches. But I was under the impression that the point of the Sunshine Kids and the Britax was that they could and should be tethered rear facing since it adds more safety.

Yea, I love that site. They are pretty cheap and I'm glad you said it was legit. I was mildly worried. Much of the money goes to charity for parents who can't afford car seats so it's an added plus

Only infant carriers come with a base; convertible carseats do not. They just go right into your car with the seatbelt or LATCH.

I recommend going to see a certified carseat specialist for help. Most cops and firemen are NOT certified, though... you need to ask if they are certified.

If you go to www.usa.safekids.org, you can find a certified car seat technician and/or car seat checks in your area. Click on the button that says "Car Safety: Find Car Seat Check Up Events" and choose your state. SafeKids is the orgainization that certifies carseat technicians, and we have to recertify every 2 years. There is a wealth of information on the site.

As for tethering Britax and Radian Sunshine Kids RF, that is what is recommended by the manufacturer. I don't remember specifically about Radian seats, but since I install at least 3 Britax seats at every seat check I'm at, I do know that there are two ways to attach the tether RF. The first, and prefered, method, is to use the attachment strap that the seat provides and wrap it around the track of one of the front seats (usually the passenger seat). The alternate way is to secure the tether strap to the FF tether anchor, usually located on the rear deck lid in a sedan or at the bottom of the seat in an SUV. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE make sure to read the owner's manual! I'm involved in a study with NHTSA to evaluate the ease of use of car seats, so hopefully in a couple of years, they'll be a whole lot easier to use and understand.
