I feel like such the minority sometimes. I can't stand Disney. Not the new Disney, anyway. I like the old Disney films... like Fantasia. Disney's original animated Pinocchio is a great story for boys. But I really don't like the new Disney stuff. I think that especially for girls, the influence is not wholesome or healthy at all. I mean... Miley Cyrus? Give me a break... dancing with a stripper pole on top of an ice cream truck? Ummm.... sure. That's what I want my kids watching...
And the shows on the Disney channel are horrible. The kids are bratty, sarcastic, rude... The kids are way overindulged and live these consumer driven materialistic existances. A few of the actors playing the characters have been busted for drugs. Nice, huh. And the content really seems to be changing over more towards snotty, spoiled, teenagers. I really miss the old Disney. Maybe
I'm just getting old!
I see kids at my boys schools talking about these shows and mimicking the behaviors they see on the shows... white boys acting "whetto" (it's what they call it at my kids schools... white boys that act like black kids.. with the same style of clothing and listening to hip-hop and all that...) and girls dressing trashy like Demi Lovato and Miley Cyrus and Britney. It's really bad. Hannah Montana has NOT been a good influence on this new generation of girls.
We had the Disney channel for a few months, and then that was it. We switched to limited basic so we can watch PBS (OPB where we live), and my kids watch films if they watch TV at all. Luckily, they prefer to play the Wii than watch TV, and we're very happy with that.
