Last year I made such a move. I graduated from college and accepted a job in another city. So I bought a new car on Friday, started my job on Monday, worked for 1 week commuting, found a place to rent, moved on Sunday, started my kids in the new school that Monday. And school had been in session at the new school for 2 weeks. It was very hectic, my head was spinning. My kids could have cared less. They were 7 and 8. All they wanted to know was when they could go exploring the new place!

Thank you everyone who replied!

We moved and settling in!

The transition seems to be going well. In the beginning he was asking when we will be going home and asking about his old friends, but he likes his school and I was actually happy I started right away, it gave us time to start unpacking. The first thing we unpacked was his toys, he loved coming home and every day seeing his favorite toys showing up in his room. Plus, he loves the community pool, the lakes (all those things we didn't have in Brooklyn).
Oh, and you know what else? For the first time in 4 years he is now sleeping all on his own in his own room! He slept in the same room with us before! And he is doing fine! I thought he'll have a fit, but he actually likes his privacy!!

So - overall, I think it went well!
Thanks!

Far out! How sweet that he was in your room before. Super that he enjoys HIS new space

Oh! Your post reminded me of The Berenstain Bear's book Moving Day. We read that to our boys when they were very young and we were making our first big move from TX to CA. What a great book! The Berenstain Bear's series have lots of wonderful stories... even one for when mom gets a job, and one for eating too much junk food! Great books.
