hey evryone
i was at the dr. office yesterday and i didnt know about cruising or bearing weight but the dr. said my child cant do either of these and supposedly its really bad do any of you have any tips on how to get my baby to do this stuff
I'm sorry are you saying your baby is incapable of doing these things or your baby hasn't learned to do them yet? There is a big difference between the two and answers will depend on which situation you are referring to.
How old is your baby? Cruising means trying to step from one place to another. He has to use the sole of his/her foot to step in order to bear weight ( means that he has to use his feet to support all his body weight). There are some child who have late developmental milestone but it should NOT be way too late from their chronological(actual) age. You shouldn't be afraid. You can consult a good OT(Occupational Therapist) or PT(Physical Therapist) from your area to better understand what's going on and what you can do to enhance this skills for your baby. My son had some similar problems before because he was a big baby. (9.12lbs-birthweight) and he was delayed in crawling and walking. But he is a very active 3-yr. old now. Hope you'll get the right help.

i think she would be able to bear weight but she doesnt want to she has very strong legs constantly kicking out but when i stand her up she puts her legs like a frog and she cant sit up without having support

if the doctor is concerned, I'd have your baby evaluated through your local school system (as the ped. for the info). i'm pretty sure it works the same in all states - if your child is considered to be 33% behind his age in one area, or 25% or more in two, he could qualify for special services (in your case, physical therapy).
both of my boys qualified for both physical and speech therapy, physical starting around 12 months of age. my boys didn't crawl until 13 months, and didn't walk until 16.5 months. i'm not sure if the therapy was the reason they started walking when they did (in other words, would it have been later without?), but it sure put a nervous mother at ease....good luck.

Well you need to get the baby evaluated to find out what is exactly wrong. Your location says you are in NYC....so I can actually recommend a great pediatric nuerologist (which is where you start the evaluation process).
Dr. John T Wells M.D. at NYU Medical, phone (212) 772-6683. From there he will point you to any other specialists that may need to be consulted. If there is a medical or congental issue then a physician can refer you to the Early Childhood Intervention program. You can not self refer in NYC. But once a diagnosis is made it's fairly easy to get set up with the physical and occupational therapies that they will provide.

No I don't know. But if they don't then what you do want to find is a pediatric neurologist that does accept medicaid. As I said that is where you start the evaluation process and you will be referred to other specialists if needed from there. Good luck!
