Too much testing. Tests just reinforce that we are less than perfect. Just ask the teacher. When the teacher pulls out a big book of test results, gently reach over and close the book and just ask the teacher what he/she thinks about your child. Good and bad, how are they going.
To the high school age students, placement tests are typically only used at the elementary school level. And even then rarely change a child's grade placement. They may be used to put a child in the correct reading or math group within their grade.
At the high school level your grade level is usually determined by how many credits you have earned. They may do "placement testing" to see if you need special help in reading, math or other academic areas but that won't change your "grade level" or how soon you can graduate.
Talk to your middle or high school guidance department if you have questions.
