While driving I would point things out constantly. This started before 9 months, but for instance, approaching a stop sign, point to it and say- STOP! S-T-O-P
This is independent play, but my son loved to climb into the tupperware cabinet while I was cooking. The pieces would all end up being on the floor, but I would talk to him about what he was grabbing, so I guess it was somewhat interactive.
Playing in the tub was always fun for him and especially good if he was fussy or to unwind him before bed. When he got a little older, I would make a whipped cream pie on a small paper plate and put it in his face (This looks so bad in writing, but it really was a fun thing for him!) My kids loved this for years. When they get older you can add sprinkles. The older that they get, the more the element of surprise came into play.

Non parents may not understand but a 9 month old kid is very aware of language and what you are talking about
oh don't forget creep mouse, creep mouse--DH and I still play that game!!!!
When my son was that age, he really liked playing "tent" which is pretty much both of us hiding under a light blanket and using the blanket to play Peek-a-boo.
Also, any nursery rhymes with hand movements (Itsy-Bitsy Spider, etc.), and dancing around to music together.
