My kids loved to play it. The oldest knew the words, the older middle knew some and learned more from it, and my younger middle who was not reading yet learned some words.
Try giving him a page of text (in a clear font - doesn't much matter what it says) and a highlighter. Let him highlight every instance of a specific sight word he can find (kind of like a word search)....reward him for finding a certain number of them (or all of them)....Some kids respond better with more activity/physical involvement....they are just different learners. Plus, most kids LOVE to highlight!
This is a great idea... I may try this with my own six year old!
My son was reading by the time he was four. He wasn't a flash card kind of kid. He loved playing site word bingo. We had prizes and everthing for the winner. I also made sure to read to him everyday. I don't know if you have a school box store where you live, but they have wonderful things to help with learning.
I don't know what his difficulty is, but there is also a CD that makes little songs out of spelling. It's really good at teaching what sounds the letters make. I'd have to find the name.
Good luck.
