I also think more people run their kids to a psychiatrist now then they did a few generations ago. In the past if a child wasn't doing well in school, the parents simply accepted he wasn't doing well in school, but today people think there's a drug to cure everything. Today people want designer kids, the perfect kids that they can brag about and since they're only going to have one or two, they have to get the perfect kid the first or second time.

Also there's almost a fad now about having some kind of label for your kid. He's either perfect or he has a diagnosis.

Because when they're little they're constantly banging their damn heads into things....hitting themselves in the head WITH things, punching their heads, putting things on their heads and running into things or smacking the thing (bucket, garbage pail, metal bowls, etc.) with OTHER things!!!! My daughter never, once, did things like this. All three of my sons were always hitting their heads with things, banging their heads on the floor, the wall, the crib, the headboard...or climbing on things, falling and hitting their heads, running while not paying attention, then crashing and smacking their heads into things. I now have a grandson.....and he is doing the same darn thing! LOL It's amazing the little buggers survive! It's no WONDER there are so many boys out there with mental problems! Jeez, it's called self-inflicted brain damage!

Okay, but seriously? The drug companies make a fortune on selling pills for every person who is a bit miserable, who doesn't WANT to sit still and learn "boring" stuff when they'd rather be out beating their heads with things (LOL)...and psychiatrists are coming up with so very many new "diagnoses"...every day. We'll all be drugged into submission before you know it. You know, as bad as this might sound, we need to face the fact that a whole lot of the chemicals which have been banned now (including chemicals used in farming, medicinal drugs, etc.), are culprits in this mental health war. In no way, did early doctors, scientists, government, etc., have any idea of what long-term effects of those earlier chemicals had on our bodies.....including DNA damage. I truly believe that many of the answers to our questions lie with damage done to our ancestors' genetic material, which has been passed down to our own children. Let's face it, look at the use of lead, for centuries...and the damage it does neurologically. Just some food for thought?

Because of the modern education system, which has moved away from actually educating children to socialization. Since its mission is now that of churning out docile little soldiers, lawyers, and middle-level managers, it places a much higher emphasis on things like sitting in line, sitting still in a desk seven hours a day, crossing things off a to-do list, and generally being fussed over by a bunch of scolds.

Heck, we don't even have recess anymore, because the puppeteers responsible for what passes for education now insist that even that 30-minute break in the middle of the day be filled with programmed activity. As a result of this kind of stultifying confinement, small wonder boys are lashing out.
