I'm 53, I don't remember how I acted as a teenager! I am, however, embarrassed by my behavior in my late 20's.
I acted decent as a teen....partied way too much, but I got along with most...I agree...my late 20's were worse, I let the freedom get to my head a little too much after my divorce...lol.
As you get older(late 20's-30's-40's etc)do you feel embarrassed about how you behaved in your teen and preteen years? Looking back I feel this way now as a 30-something. I can't believe how rude, silly and goofy I behaved in school and towards people at various times. I think this may be related to me just getting older and looking back at my behaviors from a more mature prespective as an adult I guess. Now I wasn't a bad kid but I did sometimes act in ways as a teen and younger kid that looks bad to me now. Do any of you feel embarrassed about some of your past behaviors as you get older? Do you ever wish you could go back in time and do something different with your younger behavior?
I really have no regrets other than wishing I had traveled more----like backpacking Europe and stuff like that when I was a young adult.
I always had that regret too, so 3 years ago when I was 47 I took my family and backpacked around the world--teenage daughters and all. It's probably not too late.
I certainly thought I knew more than I actually did. And I had a sense of humor that not everybody gets, so I think some of the things I did or said may have seemed pretty rude or overly sarcastic. I'm still like that to an extent, but I've learned to temper it more as an adult.

OMG! I've thought about it! I have travel brochures for biking through Europe. I'd like to do it next summer as a graduation gift.
Where did you go? Around the world is a big place! Was backpacking affordable aside from the airfare?

It is extremely doable. If you're going with a family, camping is the way to go, esp in Europe and the S. hemisphere. We went to Oz, NZ, Thailand, Vietnam, Turkey, Greece, Egypt, and then all over Europe. We rented cars a lot, because that was more economical for a family, though we regreted trying to drive thru Italy! Biking would have been better, and it's safe enough in Europe, but I wouldn't recommend it in NZ--lots of people do it, but it didn't strike me as being very safe there. The advantage of the car is that if we ran into really bad weather we could retreat to it, and we did on several occasions. In fact, X-mas 3 years ago was spent mainly in the car on a beach in Australia--it was weird enough having x-mas in the summertime, and then it just poured down rain. We sat in the car and read our books and ate our boxes of Tim Tams that we each got for a present that year.
We spent less than we would have if we'd stayed home. Also, in many parts of the world, you can barter some volunteer work in exchange for a place to stay.
In answer to the original OP (and sorry for veering off): yes, I am very embarrassed by some of my earlier behavior, and I was more immature than most. I was a mother's worst nightmare. I'm 50 and my mother is only just now breathing a sigh of relief.
