They used their old or worn out shoes (if they still fit) as "visiting the farm" shoes. Especially after the time that DS tricked DD (just turned 4) into stepping in a deep puddle of cow urine and it ruined her new blue shoes. DS was in deep doo-doo himself over that trick!
I'm surprised, too. As kids we almost always had only one pair of tennis shoes. We didn't have many "dress up" occasions, so we got shoes when those came up. Sure, I had cleats, but those wouldn't be included in my count.

Why do you care? Our boys usually had 3 or 4 pair depending on the season--tennis shoes, church shoes, usually a second pair of tennis shoes and some sandals. Our daughter had a lot more than that because she liked shoes....

Why do you have this need to compare yourself with everyone?

My son is little but right now he has fifteen pair. My only excuse is that I like his shoes to match his outfits. I'm constantly buying clothes and shoes for him. I have a bit of a shoe fetish myself so when I buy for me I also make it a point to buy for him.

On a side note, my soul left my body when as a teenager I purchased my first pair of Jimmy Choos. My best friend asks me all the time, "Who will you leave your Louboutin shoe empire to?" I guess DS will have to gain an interest in footwear or I will have to have a daughter.

My little one has like 6 pairs of shoes. I didn't buy them all for him, some were gifted for Christmas. My oldest has 5 pairs. This is including their winter boots, because apparently winter seems never ending this year We are looking forward to another 6-9 inches tomorrow. Smh.

My two oldest's shoe sizes have been stable for several years and they haven't needed new shoes in quite awhile, plus they often purchase their own clothing, so I really have no idea how many pairs they've accumulated. My youngest's footwear includes

Gym/Running shoes x2
Dress shoes
Cleats
Hiking boots
Snow boots
Keens
Swim fins

Daughter, age 9: 2 pairs. One pair of sneakers and one pair of black Mary Janes.

Daughter, age 6: Many pairs, not sure exactly. She gets a lot of hand-me-downs from a neighbor girl whose mother is much more fashion conscious than I.

Son, age 3: 1 pair of sneakers.

I'll get sandals for them all in the summer.

I didn't count boots. The 9-year old has snow boots, the 6-year old has rain boots, and the 3-year old has both snow and rain boots.

I thought of this thread today, while scanning our local "yard sale" web page. A woman was trying to sell 25 pairs of lightly worn little girl's shoes, all the same size.

Mine has 5 pairs and she is 2 years old. I am unsure if I could have done with anything less.

1. Snow shoes which i bought in Oct last year (still using on some cold days).
2. Rain boots which I just bought.
3. Spring shoes (to be used on milder days)
4. Open toes one
5. Fancy one
