If you can't solve things in a civilized way with others and esp. with a child, plain simple you got no self-control. Turn-off for me....
I agree. My answer to this is hypothetical, since I'm married, but if I was single and dating, there is no way I would get involved with someone who believed that hitting kids is normal.

Bernie Mac cracks me up! I like the one where the social worker was talking to him and he asked Bernie if it was true that he said, "I'll jump down your throat and stomp on your liver!"

I've heard that that phrase comes from the Bible, so I looked for it on a Bible website.

It's actually from Proverbs 13, and says, "24 He who spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is careful to discipline him."

I like the part, "...he who loves him is careful to discipline him."

Discipline is not beating. Hitting and spanking are not the same things.

You don't need to hit (or spank, or whatever other words people use to sugarcoat hitting) kids in order to discipline them. I'm all for discipline, its hitting that I disagree with.

Funny...I know kids that are regularly "whuped" who are the most disrespectful bratty kids you could ever meet. In the meantime, I have kids that are well-behaved and respectful to others who have never been "whuped" in their lives. My kids know I wouldn't tolerate bratty disrespectful behavior, and I don't need to slap them to get that point across.

I spanked my kids when they were impulsive toddlers and they were putting themselves in danger. If they were trying to touch a hot stove, running out into the street and not listening to me, for example - I would pick them up and give them a spanking on the spot because a quick, immediate end to that behavior was *needed* and a swift, memorable impression was *needed*. Much better to be spanked than hit by a car or burned by boiling water.

My kids are elementary aged now, and I haven't spanked them in years. And I probably never will again.

But, there are times when spanking is totally appropriate.

I'm not a big believer in polls, but if this poll is any indication of the spanking issue, it really narrows down the dating pool for you.

Would you date a pro-spanker?

Actually, I believe amateurs are much more fun to date than pro-spankers.
