Nice article. Say what you want about the Duggar family, but they have damn fine kids.

He also was the primary caregiver to help his wife deliver their first child.

Like you said, their lifestyle and beliefs are hard for many to comprehend, but I've yet to figure out how to do 1/2 of what his parents have instilled in him & siblings from day one. So much of it revolves around giving of yourself to others & not being self-consumed within yourself. And even their youngest seem to get it. It's commendable.

Because he's a Duggar, he's in the news. Most people who save someone else act bravely and never get on the news. I can't see anyone who has a small child laid at their feet just standing there and doing nothing to help. He did what anyone would do in those circumstances.

Why am I not surprised?

OP, thanks for posting this story. It made me happy to see that he was able to help!

I was thinking the exact same thing!

I know many young men who save lives regularly with the skills they learned as volunteer firefighters. If they make the news, it's local, not CNN national news.

However, I am glad these Duggar kids were there to do what any volunteer firefighter would have done. If they hadn't been there, this girl could have died.

So I'm not going to continue to rant about their making headline news.

The most important thing is that this little girl might live.

I agree. It's news (beyond just local news) because they're Duggars, but that doesn't take away from they did. There are a lot of good people out there in the world. They were there, had the training, and were able to help. I certainly don't resent them being in the news because of it; I'd be happy to read about other, non-famous people saving people, too. The more people out there who are willing and able to help (and can keep their calm in a life-or-death situation) the better. Good for them.

We had a story in our newspaper and in the news just three days ago about a 14 year-old boy who saved his best friend's 3 year-old brother by catching him after looking up just as the toddler pushed through the screen on a second-story window and fell about 15 feet - into the boy's arms. It wasn't on CNN, but it did get print and tv attention. I think stories like these appear in the news every day around the world. On this particular day, it just happened to be two of the Duggar boys. I was happy not only to hear that they were CPR trained and gave her first aid, but that they both volunteer as firemen in addition to their jobs and mission service on behalf of their church. They're just good kids. It really doesn't have to get any deeper or more complicated than that.

Teen Catches 2-Year-Old Boy Falling From Window (http://www.gnn.com/article/teen-catches-tot-falling-from-window/892481?icid=main|htmlws-main-n|dl1|link6|http%3A%2F%2Fwww.gnn.com%2Farticle%2Ft een-catches-tot-falling-from-window%2F892481 - broken link)

This is the story about the toddler falling and the 14 year old friend catching him.

Personally, I don't think the Duggar parents are any more proud of their family than any of the rest of us are of ours.

My daughter has two friends still in high school who devote their free time to volunteer firefighting. One is working on being on the medical squad. One is a junior and the other is a senior.

The Duggars are not so special.
