Problem is, he likes being a baby, being held, being kissed and cuddled, and actually prefers the diaper unlike my older son, who's now 5, who tired of diapers quickly. The LO seems to have no urgent need to be a "big boy" like his brother even though he watches him all the time. I hate the concept of food rewards especially since he loves food already! How to encourage him to go?? I'm going to try the 15-minute interval but I've started putting him on the potty and he starts to run away from me!!
My sister bribed each of her sons with the toy they wanted most. She makes no apologies!

I'm not near that age yet but I don't like the separate potty things - I'm not cleaning that. They have to learn to go on the big one sooner or later anyway.

Dont get a soft one, get a whole piece hard plastic one. But their little butts are way to small to sit on the big potty without a seat, they will fall in. And they arent coordinated or strong enough to hold themselves up while also concentrating on the action of emptying their bladder or bowel.

get a couple of those little potty lids that you just put on the toilet seat....they fit right on the big one, and just make it so the child doesn't fall in....I always had a little stool by the toilet....our sons refused to use the silly little potties with the little cup at the end to catch their ****, or to tuck their jewels into the pot....don't blame them...they would stand on the stool and use the big pot like the rest of us.

Smile I found one!

I have been searching and searching of a potty to fit my 50 pound 22 month old boy. I had bought 3 chairs that didn't even come close to covering his boy parts. Well I found a website called Scott potty, they showed measurements of the pee guard, and i decided to try it. The potty seat was only 15 dollars, and they personalized the potty seat with his name for free. They also gave us free stickers for rewards. I just received the potty seat today, and I'm shocked and very happy that it fits him. I didn't know what we were going to do! Thank goodness I don't have to worry about it. This seat fits under the existing seat so you don't have to worry about it moving around while their on it either! I'm beyond happy. So many other mothers are having this problem, so I know I had to share my findings! Good luck to you and all you other mothers out there with larger children! :-) this is the website and the seat that I'm talking about! Bjorn potty chair, hands down. Expensive, yes, but stands up to heavy kids and boys. They have a high resale value so you could find one or two on Craigslist.

Amazon.com: BABYBJÖRN Potty Chair, White: Baby

I agree 100% that this is the best for boys because of the directional pee.

We only used the soft potty ring that goes on regular toilet seat (we had the little one pick out the design) and an ikea stepstool. Boy he was so proud when he used it the first time.
