this is a good article.Unfortunately, there are way too many parents that do not know how to handle their money and can not teach their kids anything but their own bad habits!Look at the amount of debt people are in-credit cards, mortgaged to the eyeballs,no retirement savings,no college funds.Kids will ,and do learn this from their parents!

I wish my mum taught me about money.

But now we are teaching our kids about money ; about work hard=money.
One of our boys will be a workhorse ; he really seems to like to do things. The other son will have to get himself a rich wife. Oh well

I'm a financial manager - My son knows all about money and worth before he turned 5. He plays "store" all the time - this morning I was buying a pencil from him for $12 play money....at least he gave me change back

What I can't teach him is how to clean since I'm too much of a slob myself

I would need to know your peronsal financial stance right now to give you a good opinion on what to do with 400K, but I'd say aleviate your debts and put some in to long term securities while the rest into short term funds
