The piercing guns are fast and the studs used are so pointed they shoot through without anything more than a pinch.
How do you think they do piercings in a 'REAL piercing parlor'? A needle and a wooden spool? They use the same kind of gun.

You obviously have never been to a real piercing parlor
I have never ever been to a real piercing parlor that used one of those cheap plastic guns. They use sterilized needles and autoclaved forceps, as well as have training in blood borne pathogen handling and sanitizing methods.
I have yet to see that happen at Piercing Pagoda or Claires.
And believe me...those 'studs' are not nearly sharp enough. They are blunt with a little point on the end that rips through the earlobe. Plus, the 'guns' they normally use are plastic and cannot be autoclaved to prevent infection.
My sister is a professional body piercer, so I've been through the motions, trust me
